Most People Wake Up For Tahajjud And Go Back To Sleep With The Same Problems Because They Ignore These 5 Things. Do These Instead.
Tahajjud is powerful.
But many people misunderstand it.
They think Tahajjud is:“Wake up. Pray quickly. Mention a few requests. Sleep again.”
Meanwhile the righteous approached Tahajjud differently.
With presence. With humility. With sincerity. With hearts fully turned toward Allah.
And perhaps this is why some people experience deep transformation through Tahajjud…
while others remain spiritually unchanged for years.
Because Tahajjud is not magic.
It is worship.
And worship has adab.
1. Stop Rushing Into Requests Without Praising Allah First
Many people wake up and immediately begin:“Ya Allah give me this… fix this… change this…”
But the heart should first glorify Allah.
Praise Him first.
Say:
Subḥānallāh
Alḥamdulillāh
Allāhu Akbar
Call Him by His beautiful Names:
Yā Raḥmān
Yā Wahhāb
Yā Qadīr
Yā Ḥayy Yā Qayyūm
Because du‘ā becomes more beautifulwhen the heart first recognises Who it is speaking to.
2. Stop Rushing Your Sujūd
Some people barely remain in sujūd long enough for the heart to soften.
Meanwhile the Prophet ﷺ said:
“The closest that a servant is to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so say much of du‘ā.”
(Muslim, 482)
Stay longer in sujūd.
Cry there if your heart softens.
Tell Allah:
what hurts
what scares you
what nobody understands about your situation
Because some breakthroughs begin from sincere sujūd.
3. Stop Making Du‘ā Without Istighfār
Some hearts want openings while neglecting repentance completely.
Meanwhile Allah praised the righteous saying:
وَبِالْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
“And in the hours before dawn, they would seek forgiveness.”
(Qur’an 51:18)
Increase Istighfār during Tahajjud.
Say:
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
Astaghfirullāha wa atūbu ilayh.
Because some doors open through repentancebefore they open through requests.
4. Stop Making Du‘ā With A Distracted Heart
This is important.
Some people make du‘ā while their hearts are absent completely.
Tahajjud requires presence.
Slow down.
Reflect on your words.
Ask Allah with certainty not like someone merely repeating memorised lines.
Because Allah loves sincere hearts.
Not robotic worship.
5. Stop Waking Up Only When You Need Something
Some people remember Tahajjud only during crisis.
But the strongest relationship with Allah is consistency.
Pray Tahajjud:
during hardship
during ease
during confusion
during peace
Because the people closest to Allah did not worship Him only when desperate.
They worshipped Him because they loved and feared Him.
So What Should You Do Instead?
Wake up calmly.
Pray at least two rakʿāt slowly.
Remain longer in sujūd.
Praise Allah first.
Make Istighfār deeply.
Send Salawāt upon the Prophet ﷺ.
Then ask Allah sincerely with a present heart.
And trust this completely:
No sincere Tahajjud is ever wasted with Allah.
Even if the answer takes time.
Even if the transformation begins quietly.
Because perhaps…
some miracles are not happening slowly because Allah ignored you.
Perhaps Allah is first teaching your heart how to truly depend upon Him.
